Bangladeshi mobile operator Banglalink, a subsidiary of VEON Group, has expressed its interest to cooperate in post office digitization process and to share teletalk tower and spectrum.
VEON Group CEO Kaan Terzioğlu expressed this interest during a courtesy meeting with the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, Mustafa Jabbar, at the Bangladesh Secretariat in Dhaka on Wednesday.
During the meeting, VEON Group CEO led a 6-member delegation. The delegation included VEON Group co-founder Augie K Fabela, Banglalink CEO Erik Aas, Chief Corporate Officer Taimur Rahman and Chief Legal Officer, Jahrat Adib Chowdhury.

In the meeting, various issues related to uninterrupted mobile services were discussed, including fair competition environment among mobile operators, development of digital communication technology, human resource development, mobile tower sharing and the need to use the vast infrastructure of post offices across the country to exploit the huge potential of digital commerce.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications highlighted the ongoing program to digitize the country's 9,000 post offices and said that the post office has now become a reliable institution for digital-commerce. We are working tirelessly to utilize the vast infrastructure and manpower of post offices across the country. Under the direction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, we are preparing a roadmap for post office digitization to establish a postal system suitable for the digital era. It will be implemented soon.
Banglalink expressed interest in participating in this work. Besides, VEON Group CEO Kaan Terzioğlu praised the various initiatives taken by the government in expanding mobile services including spectrum allocation through auction.
In response, the Minister assured to consider Banglalink's cooperation in the process of digitizing the post office. At the same time, Teletalk's tower and spectrum sharing proposal will be taken into consideration.
He said, as a result of mutual sharing of infrastructure between Banglalink and Teletalk, there is an opportunity for both organizations to benefit from investment. The minister expects a stronger role of Banglalink in mobile services in the country.
